One of the shortest airport commutes of any major US downtown

San Diego International Airport (SAN) is about 4 miles from East Village — roughly a 10–14 minute drive depending on traffic. That’s unusually close for a major U.S. city; many downtowns sit 20–40+ minutes from their airport. If you travel often for work or just want painless trips home for the holidays, this is a genuine, everyday-relevant advantage of living here rather than in a further-out neighborhood.

Freeway access

East Village sits close to the on/off ramps for Interstate 5, San Diego’s main north-south freeway, with connections to CA-94 (heading east toward the I-15 corridor) just south of downtown. That gives reasonably fast access to North County, the I-15 corridor, and the border area without needing to cross through downtown surface streets first.

Walkability and what’s within reach

  • Petco Park (Padres games) — easy walking distance from East Village, and a genuine neighborhood amenity on game nights
  • Balboa Park — museums, gardens, and the San Diego Zoo, a short trip from Downtown
  • Gaslamp Quarter — restaurants, bars, and nightlife, immediately adjacent to East Village
  • Seaport Village and the waterfront — walkable from Downtown
  • San Diego Trolley — Downtown is the hub of the trolley network, with direct lines reaching Naval Base San Diego, Mission Valley, SDSU, and beyond without needing a car for many everyday trips
